Beautiful and all original matching numbers 18k solid gold Lepine Duplex Escapement with hacking mechanism . This watch is most likely early-to-mid 1800's. Very rare watch and in excellent condition inside and out. Matching numbers case is solid 18k gold (actually tested at 20k) and is elaborately engraved, dust cover also engraved and states "Duplex Escapement, Ruby Roller and Lever, Eight Holes Jewelled, Compensated Curb, No. 2756". Hacking mechanism is actived by a small gold slide on the outer case edge at the 1 o'clock position (see pictures), and allows you to synchronize seconds, also serves as a stopwatch function. The French style ebauch movement was popular from about 1820 to 1840 with a covered barrel bridge and separate bridges for each gear in the train, but actually first appeared in the late 1700's. Watch is keyset and key wind from the back (through the dust cover). Dial is also 18k gold, roman numerals and highly engraved (see detailed picture below bottom). Hands are gold Fler-de-lis and original to the watch. It was very unusual for a hacking feature to be included, making this quite a rare watch. Watch is in excellent condition, is running well and keeping good time.
