Description:   The watch was made by Johan Riel of Stadtamhof, Germany between 1700 and 1750.  The town of Stadt-am-hof was a small town about 65 miles S. E. of Nurnberg, Germany. Near the Czech.- Hungary boarder.  Johan Riel is a listed maker in G.H. Baillie's "Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World" (second edition).  He was known for his very fine watches and repeaters.  This example has a tortoise shell outer pair-case.  The case measures 2 3/4" across, a large watch with a fancy bow.  Movement has a verge escapment and a chain driven fusee.  The watch is nearing 300 years old and and in excellent condition for it's age.  The pair case is in excellent condition and the inside case is silver with the back of the outside case being tortoise shell.  The tortoise shell looks great but does have a couple of cracks in the shell.  The watch is key wind in the back and key set in the front.  A key is supplied with the watch, but it is not the original key.  The watch is all original.  The face has some scuff marks and there is a small paint chip between 3 & 4 o'clock.  The watch has been recently serviced and it runs fine, but I can make no guarantees to it's time keeping ability.
