175 YEAR OLD SURVIVOR!
c1830 "M.I. Tobias, Liverpool" Lever Fusse
Hallmarked 18k Gold Open Face Case
Price = $895
SOLD
Description: M.I. Tobias & Company operated in Liverpool, England from approximately 1805 to 1868. They manufactured watches in the English style and also imported watches from the Swiss. This is one of their original Englisdh watches, an 18k gold open face rack lever fusee in very good original condition. This watch has just been cleaned and serviced and performs very well considering it is approximately 170 years old. It dates to about 1830. Having a very substantial case hallmarked 18k in 2 places on the case. Fusee driven movement in excellent working condition with rack lever escapement and brass ratchet style escape wheel. The dial is porcelain and has two small hairlines at the 7 position and at the 8 position (not very noticeable, see pictures) and also has a small chip at the 3 position that has been repaired, these flaws are not easily seen without magnification and do not detract from the appearance of the watch. The hands are gold fleur-de-lis style and original to the watch. The back of the case is engine turned showing wear around the outside, the rim of the case being coin edged. The hinges are tight and the original bow is also 18k (tested). Inside the back of the case has some minor marks from opening (not noticeable on the outside of the case). The watch is about a 16size, approximately 56mm diameter, and in good original condition. If you are looking for a nice gold fusee in good working order and not all butchered up take a serious look at this one. I think you'll be pleased.
