Description: c1918 American Watham 8-Day Wind Indicator Marine Chronometer, Double Boxed - all original and at one time a given as a prize to the winning Captain of the America's Cup.  Serial number 22,229,197, 15 jewels, marked adjusted, movement in near mint condition.  Chronometer is stem set and wound, so no chronometer key is required.  Boxes in good condition.  Uuter box shows some wear and the base has crack from weathering, but otherwise looks quite nice, has a lot of character, new leather carring strap recently installed.  Inner box is in great shape, well protected by the padded outer box and signed "WALTHAM" on a brass plate, three-tiered with glass viewing window under top tier, access to the movement to wind and set under second tier.  The movement is housed in a brass tub, mounted in two concentric brass gimbals to keep the watch level and contribute to long term accuracy required for marine navigation.  Still has the vendor certification tag inside which reads "NEGUS, Nautical Instrument, 69 Pearl St., New York" adding some nice providence to the piece.
