SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This Mustang started off life as a 302 Sportroof with factory A/C.
Starting with a dry Arizona body it underwent a 3 year long rotisserie
restoration. Photos were taken during the restoration (some have been
included here, scroll to the bottom to see). Less than 600 miles on
a total restoration. During the restoration this Mustang was was
upgraded to a Mach1 drivetrain and interior. Mach1 rocker trim was
also purchased and restored but has not yet installed (see detailed photos
below). Professionally applied Grabber Orange base/clear coat has excellent
reflective quality and has been applied over a very straight steel body.
Doors and windows open and close nicely, panel gaps are better than
when new. Reproduction Mach 1 interior, reproduction Magnum 500's with
new BF Goodrich tires. New Flomaster Dual Exhaust with H pipe.
Disc/drum brakes all fully rebuilt. FMX auto transmission was
rebuilt with a TCI Performance Converter. 351 Cleveland engine was
built .030 over with Hipo Heads, upgraded P-tronix ignition. Has the
Shaker hood with reproduction Cobra Jet Ram Air intake. Has a deep,
throaty idle with aggressive acceleration. Ford 9" rear was completely
rebuilt with all new seals and bearings, 3:55 ratio. Front and rear
suspension have been completely rebuilt. Owner who restored this car
put it together with intention of keeping forever, and it shows in all the
small subtle ways, right down to the quality of the door jambs and the clean
new hardware throughout. This is an absolutely exceptional car that
is unmistakably show quality and 98% ready to go. The following items
remain to be completed; AM/FM Stereo and AM 8-track Stereo purchased
but not yet installed, (though new stock speakers are wired and ready).
Both radios are period correct, purchaser can pick a desired unit, please
see pictures included below. Factory Air Conditioning both under dash
and underhood have been rebuilt, new condenser, new lines run and capped,
brackets have been repainted and installed, but no A/C compressor has been
purchased or installed. Rocker mouldings (complete set) purchased and
restored but not yet installed. Economic times have regrettably forced
the sale of this vehicle. Far more than $40K invested, not including
the majority of the labor. If it ends up in your garage, you will no
doubt end up with one of the nicest, solid rust free professionally restored
Mustangs on the planet.

CONDITION DETAILS:
BODY Restoration photos were viewed and photos were taken. All photos show an all steel body which was completely stripped down to metal and well worked. Looking down both sides of the vehicle, no obvious areas of waviness were detected. The doors, hood, and deck lid open, close, and latch appropriately. The doors open and close easily, with no obvious hinge pin sag noted. The door skin lips are clean and visible. The door bottoms are solid, and the factory drain holes are visible. All panel gaps appear period correct or better. No panel alignment issues were detected. The steel Ford hood has a modified Torino opening, but still maintains the Mustang shaker assembly. It adds a nice, subtle detail. Restoration photos revealed there is a small 2 repair next to the left tail light. It is undetectable from inside or outside. The rear cowl panel is very solid and original. Two very faint cracks in the paint over the malleable seam sealant that was used at the upper quarter panel seams. Some minor prep flaws are present in the drip rail channels, but are not visible unless under close inspection. There are 3 pencil lead sized bubbles just ahead of the left rear tire. The VIN sticker was not in the left door jamb at the time of inspection; however the dash VIN matches both the original Arizona and Michigan titles. Overall, this is a very clean and straight body, well capable of show level competition.
BRIGHT WORK All pieces are very good driver quality or nicer, with the majority of the pieces being considered as showable driver quality, as many were replaced. The marker lights, headlights, and tail lights are all clear and free of noted cracks with no fogging, and again many were replaced with NOS or reprodiction parts. The gas cap, door handles, grille, and emblems are very clean, with no obvious flaws. The front bumper appears clean, and the chrome has a very nice shine to it. The rear bumper is aftermarket, with some light prep flaws typical of reproduction bumpers and slightly hazy chrome noted. The drip rail trim is original, but has been nicely polished. The window surrounds are original, and in very nice condition. There is one minor outie dings on the drivers side upper windshield surround. The left vent window chrome is original, with some mild patina.
GLASS/RUBBER/WHISKS All glass has Carlite markings. The side and rear glass appears original, with no obvious chips, cracks, or major scratches noted. The aftermarket Carlite windshield is clean and clear, with no obvious flaws. The side windows roll up and down nicely, with no obvious binding noted. With the drivers window rolled down, there is a minor rattle when the door is closed. This rattle can most likely be adjusted out, and would not be a concern by most standards. The vent windows open and close nicely. All rubber body seals are in very good condition, being recently replaced.
INTERIOR The interior has been upgraded to Mach 1 status. The seat covers, carpeting, door panels, dash top, dash face, and dash trim appear to have been replaced when restored. Seats have new foam and seat backs. The gauge faces are clean, and the lenses are clear. The glove box door opens and closes nicely. Emblem to be installed above the glove box door, per owner, but was not installed at the time of inspection. FoMoCo dated seat belts are lightly faded, but very nice for original. Clean headliner and visors. The kick panel, sail panel, and underdash lights all function. The rear compartment is very clean, with no obvious wear. The rear seat folds properly, with no obvious binding noted. Original seat frame was blasted and coated, repainted, and carpeted with new chrome hinges installed. Very light wear was noted on the steering wheel, shifter knob, and center console, but all pieces are very presentable. The sill plates are original, with only a few dings and usage scratches noted. There is a ½ crack above the upper screw in the right A-pillar trim. The tips of the sail panel material are loose on both sides near the vent windows, and needs reattachment. The clock is inoperable. No radio was installed at the time of inspection, but all speakers have been wired. The inside door handles appear original, with only some light patina, but are still very presentable.
WHEELS AND TIRES The wheels are newer period correct style Ford Magnum 500s. They are all very clean, with no obvious curb scuffing, pits, or other flaws noted. The painted portions are very clean, with no obvious chips or scratches in paint. The center caps are clean, with no apparent flaws. The tires are BFGoodrich P225/70R14s. The tires appear to be in like new condition, with no obvious wear noted.
UNDERBODY From viewing the restoration photos, the entire underbody was bead blasted and cleaned. The underbody appears solid and stable, and has been lightly undercoated. The subframes are solid, with no obvious jacking depressions, decay, or other damage seen. The original torque boxes are solid and stable. There is a 12 x 16 floor repair near the drivers foot well. The seam of this repair was well hidden, and a correct style panel was used for the patch. There is a small 2 x 3 steel repair at the rear portion of the left rear wheel tub. No prior collision damage was detected, as all components bolted up nicely. All of the front and rear suspension components have been rebuilt and repainted, or replaced. All brake lines, fuel lines and clips are newer. All original corrugation and reinforcement lines are visible in the floor surfaces. Complete underbody was lightly covered in undercoating which was cleanly and professionally applied. Overall, an excellent underbody, capable of being shown with mirrors and ramps at local car shows.
UNDERHOOD The factory spot welds are present in the forward portions of the shock towers. The inner fenders, firewall, and core support appear solid and stable. The entire underhood compartment has been nicely painted and detailed. Clean, painted engine block. No obvious upper leaks noted. Replacement period correct hoses, hose clamps, and belts. Aftermarket Petronix ignition, ignition coil, distributor cap, and spark plug wires. The A/C compressor, compartment lines, and belts are not currently installed. The remainder of the A/C system has been rebuilt, including the underhood A/C box and condenser. This section of the car is equally as nice as the rest of the vehicle.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT The trunk extensions over rails and inner quarter panels are solid, stable, and nicely painted to match the exterior. The trunk jambs are clean, painted, and detailed. The gas tank is clean, with no leaks seen or smelled. The scissor jack and lug wrench are present. No spare tire is present.
TEST DRIVE The vehicle was cold to the touch upon arrival. The engine started easily, with 2 pump of the accelerator. The engine idles well, and has a mild lopey cam installed. The oil pressure is reading at approximately 60-70% of the gauge. The engine accelerates well, per owner. The transmission seems to shift properly, with no obvious defects noted, per owner. A TCI convertor has been installed, per owner. The engine, transmission, and rear differential have all been completely disassembled and rebuilt. 3.55:1 gear ratio open rear differential. 2- bolt 351 Cleveland block with 4 barrel carburetor. Hardened valve seats installed in high performance heads. Photos were taken during the restoration, including heads and motor disassembly. Due to in climate weather the inspector was unable to test drive the vehicle, however the vehicle was started, allowed to warm up, and idle for appropriate amount of time. Comments regarding the vehicles drivability are per owner.
SUMMARY - Overall, a highly restored example of a classic Ford muscle
car. A high level of workmanship shows through in every aspect of this
vehicle. The paint has been professionally applied over a solid and
straight body. The interior has been nicely restored and upgraded
to reflect the Mach 1 look, and shows very well. The underbody is very
solid and stable, and has been lightly undercoated. The underhood
compartment has been nicely restored to stock. Could easily be a show
car with some relatively minor finishing and attention to detail.
